Other's must have pointed this out aready: using an area plot for discrete categories like states is nonsensical. There is e.g. nobody living "between" WV and AK, but the chart has data ink there. It's a nice compact way to present all the data, but there should be a neutral area between all categories. Also you obviously sorted the original data, presumably according to highest average unemployment. The criteria for sorting should be mentioned, as it influences data presentation and the viewer's impression.
